Everybody knows a person who can eat almost anything they want but never seems gain a single pound. How do people have such high metabolisms, and how can I build my metabolism up? To answer that question I did some research and came up with these 5 sure fire ways to speed up your metabolism.
1. Do Intense Interval Training
Interval training is when you are working at different intensities at different points of a workout. An example is riding an exercise bike easy for 30 to 60 seconds and then riding hard for 30 to 60 seconds and doing that for 20 to 60 minutes. Doing high intensity interval workouts will increase the “after burn” following your workouts. You will burn more calories after this type of workout compared to a steady jog or brisk walk. Give it a try and see how it will work for you.
2. Workout More Frequently
I know very few people have the ability to workout multiple times a day, but if you can squeeze in 2 to 4 ten/twenty minute workouts instead of 1 long forty to hour workout you will burn more fat throughout the day. Going back to point #1, it is far more likely for a person to workout at a high intensity for 10 minutes than it is to keep a high intensity for a whole hour. You’ll have that great after burn constantly in your day instead of letting it fade away.
3. Drink Cold Water All Day Long – 2 to 3 liters will do.
Who can’t drink a little extra water during their day? Metabolism needs water to work. If you want to speed up your metabolism you have to drink water. A researcher in Berlin found that after drinking 17 ounces of water that your fat-burning metabolism increases by 30%. I know it is not easy for everyone to grab a drink of water whenever you want, but I believe a person should make a conscious effort try and drink more water.
4. Eat More Fiber and Protein
A person’s body burns more calories if the food is a type of fiber or protein. In fact, some foods actually burn more calories than what is taken in. A 20 calorie fresh carrot will burn 25 calories. These are the best types of food if you are trying to lose weight and still get fueled up for your day.
5. Eat 5 Smaller Meals Throughout Your Day
A person should have their three main courses (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner), but before and after lunch a snack needs to be consumed. Basically, you want to be eating something ever three hours instead of large meals every six hours. The idea behind this is if you eat when you are not hungry your body will use the food as instead of storing it as fat. Your body has a survival technique of story fat when it is hungry. It will use the food as it was intended for as energy and not store it as fat.
There you have it. Five natural ways to speed up your metabolism and get your body working for you instead of you working for your body!!! I didn’t speak of cutting a huge amount of calories, crazy workouts, or medication/supplements. If you can master these five steps you will have your metabolism revved up before no time.
